Success is important. Here’s what you do…. First, you plant the seed. Then you make sure you water it, spend some time tending to the seed so it can start sprouting and growing, then take care of it some more.
You may not see the growth in the moment but over time you will be able to look back to where you started and see the progress. Through patience and time, the seed will eventually become a tree and you can literally enjoy later on the fruits of your labor.
On the other hand, what if after you planted the seed, you just leave it as is? More often than not, it dies. Plain and simple.
Perhaps, there was another seed that could give you more leaves or fruits and you wanted to plan that instead. Or maybe you just got bored of doing the same things every day to tend to that seed. Maybe you were too impatient to wait for it to grow.
Your ideas. Your decisions. Your plans. Metaphorically speaking, just like in your own business, these so-called seeds are the necessary starting point of growing your own company. However, when you are not committed enough to growing it and you always tend to embrace a new plan, or idea, or change direction, or course of action, you are starting over (again!) You have to go back to the beginning to plant a new seed.
As business owners, it is normal to love your ideas. You brag about them on social media and tease people with the promises these ideas may hold. You don’t want others ‘stealing’ them from you.
It is very easy to get caught up in each new idea that comes or opportunity that presents itself thinking that “This could be THE ONE that will finally bring me what I want in life!”
Only to find that maybe it isn’t. It’s taking longer than expected. They’re not as easy to realize and materialize. So, once more, you look to the next best idea, the next ‘shiny object’ hoping that it will be “the one.
Please note that frequently changing direction is where the problem lies. That’ what hampers success.
What you do instead is to give yourself the time to properly execute your plans and ideas and continue to learn from them. Once you learn, you can then grow your business. Don’t easily give up and jump to the next best plan.
What can tremendously help you is to invest in the right people to help you so you can begin to implement your current plans to see what can happen when you don’t have to manage it all yourself.
This isn’t to say never change directions. A time will come for your business when you need to change things. But if you have been starting over and over again, it might be high time for you to start delegating tasks and seek support.
